So next in the book Flare returns to the city of Telur after his months of training. The most important lesson he learned is that when you are fighting to the death fair gets you killed so fight dirty in order to live. Flare has one day to rest before the test to enter the gaurdians begins the test will last three days and it tests speed agility strength stamina and strategy. Flare passes the tests but then he has to get passed by a table of judges that will test his mental strength and see if he can think through the stress of being picked on and stuff. He passes this and is then put in a boot camp sorta thing and he is introduced to the other 13 members of his squad. only one is an elf the rest are all human and there are two mages in his group as well. they neer the end of boot camp and the officer training them has to pick a leader for the group the two people that he is considering are Flare and Philip who is a noble mans son. So since he cant decide he has then swordfight for leadership and flare wins. I was really happy when flare made it past the tests because that was sorta his dream and stuff . But because flare is elven royalty he isnt treated nicely at first and that makes me mad because once again he cant controll that and he should be judged by the way he behaves and not beause he is of a different race or because he has a title. I new that flare was going to win leadership of the group though it was just so expected. I also felt really sad for flare though because he accomplished all of this but he had no family to tell of his success that would really depress me.

So Flare decided that in order to do what he really wanted to do with his life he would go on a "hunting trip". So he prepares the things that he needs and says goodbye to his mother and when he did this his mother told him a secret that he was actually born two months earlier and she hidwhen he was born because there was a prophecy aout a half human half elf that would do terrible things that said that the person prophesized aboutwould be born in the spring so she waited until summer to announce his birth for his protection. Then Flare sets off on his journey and comes across a lake monster and barely comes away with his life. after he defeated the lake monster he crossed over into human territory. When he started going through human towns people stared at him because it wasnt very often that they saw elves. After a couple of days ride through the country he came to the city of Telur. When he got into the city he started looking for the elven ambassador. When he found him he aranged a meeting with the king of Telur. The king listened to what Flare had to say then said he would let him try out for a spot in the gaurdians. He then arranged for Flare to have a warrior train him. The next morning Flare set out with his trainer and would be gone from Telur for 3 months. I was really shocked when his mother told him of the prophecy and explained the details of why she kept it a secret from him and i wouldnt really think that such a thing as a prophecy would be such a big deal because it could be wrong. I also thought it was really strange how when he was passing by all those towns people were staring at him even if it was a rare occurence to see an elf i dont see why they all stopped what they were doing to stare sometimes even with open hostility. that just doent make sense just because the relations between elves and humans are strained doesnt meen that they have to hate each other.
So for this month I decided to read a series. The first book in this series is called The Gaurdians. Its about a half elf prince named Flaranthlas Eldanri or as he likes his friends to call him Flare. So in the first chapter you learn that Flares mother an elven princess was raped by a human and Flare was the result of this. Because of this incident humans and elves do not talk to each other. Next you learn that Flare is virtually an outsider in his country and that most of the elves pretend that he doesnt even exist. It is Flares birthday and it is elven tradition that when young elves reach twenty that they have to pick a career path and tell the oldest male in the family of their choice. So Flare is on his way to see his grandfather the king. On the way he he runs into his cousin . His cousin and his uncle hate Flare because he is part human and think he should be exiled. After he runs into them he continues on his way to the palace. When he finally gets to see his grandfather he tells him that he wants to become a gaurdian of Telur (Telur is a human country). When his grandfather hears this he gets really angry at Flare and tells him that he cant do that. Flare is upset because it is against the elven rules for a young elf to be ordered into a career path. After that Flare leaves the castle and plans a way for him to run away and become a gaurdian of Telur. I think I would get really tired of people ignoring me because of what my parents did or being meanbecause of things I have no controll over. And if my family told me that I couldnt do something that i knew would make me happy I would probably get really angry and do it anyway just to spite them.
